A very nice example of the Gift Set 17 components from an original early set.
The Land Rover is always a red edition and this one is in lovely condition with just small chips on the roof bars. the wheels are like new and the front bumper is unusually straight and true. It has a replacement canopy but is otherwise all original with a hook in place.
The trailer is the first type, slightly shorter and without the hatching that appears on later ones, and is all yellow as should be the case for this set with small smooth wheels. It is in good condition with excellent yellow paintwork, paint loss just along the top side edges and with a complete and intact towing ring.
The Ferrari is actually from The Wilford Collection of items that belonged to Percy Wilford, a Senior Production Manager at Corgi in Northampton and is an early production sample. However, as it appears identical to the models issued in the box and I only have conversations by way of evidence, I cannot sell it as anything particularly special and decided to include it in this set. It has the early shaped wheels and is all original. Note that it has the correct style of numbers for the transfers - reproductions get this wrong. The Ferrari is also nicely and, very rarely, undamaged at the front where the nose so often collects small chips. It does lack a driver though. Now, to me, this seems entirely appropriate as no racing driver would feel happy to sit in his car, on a trailer, a few feet behind the exhaust of of an Land Rover! Whilst maybe rather more realistic, I do accept that the Gift set did have a driver in place and, should another Ferrari come along in good enough condition I may replace it.
In the meantime this very attractive and interesting set is available as it stands.
