This is something a little special. In 1968 Corgi produced this case which could hold up to 18 models from their main range and, when opened, the case turned into a small layout with a filling station, roadway and ramps to an upper level car park. This one also comes with a bridge so that cars can be driven in from outside across the edge of the case.
It is made of firm Corgi blue vinyl over strong card with plastic elements for the filling station, ramps etc.
This is what may have been a sample as it is accompanied by an interesting letter from Corgi's PR people with a draft of how it could be presented, possibly a press release. There is also a photograph but that does not include the red bridge which this one contains.
It is all in near perfect condition with just one small crack where a plastic ramp joins the upper level. Inside there are spaces for collectors' cards for a Corgi set I am not familiar with from this time and which maybe was not issued, as well as a plastic sign to fit on the top of the filling station building.
There are two sheets of original transfers or stickers to go on various parts of the display. These are still contained in the original John Dickinson envelope they would have been supplied in.
The case itself is a lovely piece of Corgi history in itself but with the PR firm letter and other pieces this is a possibly unique item that will should have considerable value to Corgi collectors.
It is priced accordingly as I do not expect to find another one in this condition and certainly not with the associated correspondence.
