Here is a nice example of the second issue of the 220SE. This lacks the expensive steering mechanism but remains an attractive model - and it also gets a suitcase added to the boot, and the spare wheel is present.

There is a slight difference to the casting too, with this one having a quarter light pillar and a curved edge to the boot at the hinged side instead of being straight as before.

The emblem is in place and the paintwork very good, just showing small marks on the edge of the boot lid and some side panels. The windows are all clean and clear and the suspension and tyres excellent, the model being entirely original with a very clean base too.

Although this model is listed as being issued with the spare wheel as well as two suitcases, an opening large one and a closed smaller case, I have only ever come across models with the spare wheel and an opening case. Indeed, I wonder just how the two cases would fit in but I suppose it must be possible. I found it quite difficult to fit the spare wheel in as the boot seems slightly less deep than on the 230 model. Originally I had thought that the large suitcase replaced the spare wheel as a result but it seems I was wrong about that.

Anyway this is a wonderful model, looks great despite a little playwear and a casting flaw on the bonnet. This colour is quite hard to find. I do not have a small briefcase at the moment but hope to obtain one. In the meantime this is available as it stands, and is another item from my own collection.
